ST. LOUIS (AP) — An Associated Press survey of the nation's top methamphetamine-producing states shows national lab seizures rose again last year.

The survey confirmed that Missouri regained the top spot for lab seizures in 2011 with just more than 2,000 busts. It also found that Tennessee came in second with almost 1,700, followed by Indiana, Kentucky and Oklahoma.

RALEIGH (AP) — Gov. Beverly Perdue says she's shifting money to enroll another 2,000 at-risk 4-year-olds in a state program that helps them catch up to their peers before entering kindergarten.

Perdue's office said today it has identified $9 million from child care subsidy funds to pay for an extra 2,000 slots in the North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten program.

Raleigh man charged with altering odometers

Authorities arrested a Raleigh man today for selling vehicles with altered odometers on Craigslist.

Francis Marimo, 38, was arrested after police searched his home and seized numerous items connecting him to various car sales.

RALEIGH (AP) — A spokesman for the North Carolina Highway Patrol says an applicant has collapsed and died after completing a 1.5-mile run.

Sgt. Jeff Gordon said Wednesday that the applicant had just completed the run which is part of the screening process when he collapsed around 12:30 p.m. The applicant's identity hasn't been released.

2 young boys killed by truck while walking in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (AP) — Two young boys are dead after being hit by a truck in Charlotte while walking with their father to a nearby daycare center.

Police say the children, who were 1 and 5 years old, were hit by a delivery truck this morning in west Charlotte while walking to the center.

The brothers were taken to a nearby hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

GRAHAM — Alamance County sheriff's deputies arrested a 21-year-old man at South Graham Park, where the man thought he was meeting a 14-year-old he contacted online.

Mark Lee Goodson of Graham was charged with one count of solicitation of a minor by computer for commission of a sex act, according to a news release.

Police: Man, 102, dies from self-inflicted gunshot

GREENSBORO — Police are investigating the death of a man this morning in a home near Lake Jeannette.

It appears that the man, 102, shot his wife, 84, before shooting himself.

At around 7:26 a.m, Greensboro police said officers responded to a 911 call of shots fired at a single-family residence at 5007 Cobbler Ridge Court.

Special N.C. plate helps fund spaying, neutering

RALEIGH (AP) — The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Animal Welfare Section reimbursed counties almost $400,000 for spay/neuter procedures last year, thanks in part to purchases of "Animal Lovers" specialty license plates.

The procedures were intended for pets belonging to low-income residents.
