Thai Corner Kitchen (632-8854) has opened at 2600 High Point Road in Greensboro in the space that formerly housed Gyro No. 1 All Greek and Singha Thai.
At Thai Corner Kitchen, protein options include chicken or beef ($8) or shrimp and seafood ($10), and you choose the style, such as Pad Kapow with basil and chili, Pad Pak with vegetables in garlic sauce, Pad Eggplant with Chinese eggplant and basil sauce, and Pad Phet with chili, baby corn and lime leaves.
Noodle and rice dishes ($8 chicken or beef, $10 shrimp or seafood) include the traditional Pad Thai with rice noodles, Drunken Noodles with hot pepper and basil and Kao Pad Pu with fried rice and crab meat.
Manager Timmy Vasasiri says the restaurant’s Pad Thai is served in a sweet and sour sauce, which, he says, is different than the typical dish.
Chef Tanya Pangputipong says the noodles for Drunken Noodle are made in house.
Vasasiri and Pangputipong have another Thai restaurant on Dupont Circle in Washington.
Lunch specials for the above dishes cost $6.95 for chicken or beef and $8.95 for shrimp or seafood and are served with soup or salad.
Signature dinner entrees include fried Whole Flounder ($16) with chili and garlic or a sweet and sour sauce, Crispy Ginger Shrimp ($14) and Imperial Pad Thai ($14) with shrimp, scallops, squid and topped with flaked crab.
Thai Corner also offers three curries ($8 chicken, beef, tofu, vegetables; $10 shrimp or seafood). You also can build your own bowl of noodle soup with choices of protein and soup base.
Vegetarian dishes include Kapow Pak and Tofu ($8) with vegetables and chili sauce, Spicy Eggplant and Tofu ($8) and Spicy Veggie Fried Rice with basil ($8).
Other specialties include Crispy Spring Rolls ($4 for three), Tofu Tod ($4) with fried tofu and chili and peanut dipping sauce, Skewered Chicken Satay ($6) and a combination of Steamed Dumplings ($6) with crab, shrimp, pork and sweet corn served with sweet soy sauce.
Thai Corner Kitchen offers a drive-through. Chef Tanya Pangputipong says she can usually have an order ready in about five minutes.
Thai Corner Kitchen hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.
